Our Precious Sligo

God brought a plant from Heaven
to sow in Ireland's West
Up sprouted safe havens
For in those Irish troubled times
many a hero refuge did find
into the welcoming arms of Sligo.

Be proud if you are one of her native sons
of that same county where your kin came from
for tonight ou will hear that trumpet call
it's time to honor Sligo.

Remember them on the North Atlantic side
especially for our relatives. Friends and those who died
for they too had an abundance of pride
being products of Sligo.

The wondrous beauty of Kilarney Lakes
could never entice William Butler Yeats
Before closing his eyes for final rest
chose for burial that land he loved the best
he called his Heavenly Sligo.

A beauty pagent at an emerald ball
judges vote and announce. It's a unanimous call
selected fairest of them all
it's Miss Sligo.

Now raise your glasses one and all
enjoy yourself at this grand ball here
A toast to the greatest county of all
our precious Sligo.
