My
Sligo and Yeats
How
lovely...So Lovely...This land of my birth...'Tis filled with
great history...Grand people of worth...The colleens of fashion...And
beauty enthrall...The lads very handsome...Steal hearts, one
and all...Now I lost my own heart...To dear Donegal...Until
I saw Sligo...The best of them all...The sunshine, the roses...The
warmth of the day...The cool-sleeping night-times...Banish troubles
away...The welcoming turf-fire...When evening draws nigh...The
elegant way, they...Serve tea they call "high"...The
so fabulous lakes...Glencar and Lough Gill...I remember from
childhood...I do love them still...The beaches of Strandhill...And
Rosses Point too...Have an elegant vastness...Just waiting for
you...The magnificent view...From the top of Knock'rea...Or
dear Old Ben Bulben...Amazing, I say...The rain softly falling...O'er
mountain and dell...Adds mystical beauty...In the shades of
bluebell...A fisherman's paradise...Lake, river and sea...Abounding
in challenge...Just wait patiently...Red fuchsias growing wild...Add
colour galore...And blossoms in variance...Embelish the shore...The
history, the age less...Hidden under the sod...The chimes of
the church bells...Say I'm nearer to God...With my heart full
of sadness...I'll say fond adieu...To the county I love...How
lucky are you...Please cherish the grandeur...So I need not
mourn...I'll boost dear old Sligo...Till again I return...
